The improv community of Eindhoven is the biggest little improv community you’ve never heard of. The beginnings of improv in Eindhoven are lost to the mists of history, but some say that our drop-ins started as early as 2015. From that point forward, English-language improv has been a focal point of the expat scene. It’s become a safe space for people from all over the world to meet, make friends, and laugh, even if they’ve never done improv before.
Over time the scene grew, and our drop-ins now regularly count more than 25 attendees a week (sometimes as many as 40) and our monthly Showjams (combination improv show and all-play jam) have packed audiences. We offer workshops from local and visiting teachers as well as courses, and we’ve got big plans in the works.
Brand new to improv? Brand new to Eindhoven? Maybe you want to be a performer and maybe you just want to meet people or work on your public speaking skills. All are welcome, and we’d love to help you find your place in the community.
Who are we?
Put simply, improv is the art of creating theater without a script. There are several types of improv: short form (structured, short games with clear rules), long form (more theatrical and loose, with a single set of guidelines defining the whole set), and narrative (no rules at all).
All forms of improv reward (and teach) great listening skills, clarity in communication, and a sense of play. Many people, even if they have no desire to stand on stage in front of an audience, find improv to be an effective tool that helps them be more confident at work and in social situations. It’s also a truly brilliant way to make friends - when a bunch of adults get together to play like they did when they were kids, barriers quickly break down and connections are made.
There are tons of articles on the internet that describe improv in more detail, and you’re welcome to read them, but the best way to learn about improv is to experience it. We have drop-ins every Tuesday - come play!
